Dear hornbillers,
After finishing at Tebing Tinggi RF, we moved to another part of Bintang Hijau FR, to a place with the spooky name of Belukar Hantu (now renamed to something less sinister but still same name in my map).
This site is the Selama intake where water is taken from the Selama river for the folks around the district.
We parked the vehicle under the shade and kept watch at the forested hills beyond the fenced up site. Perhaps it was the time of day (we arrived at about 1.30 pm) but no hornbill activity were observed or calls heard even though we kept vigil until 3.30 pm.
Some years back, we were at the same spot in the middle of the day and saw a pair of Rhinoceros Hornbills make a flypast. The forest looks pristine enough for hornbills and a couple of locals we spoke to, including a friendly man with his jering collector, confirmed hornbils are still around.
Well, we’ll make a return check and try our luck again.
