It was down memory lane for some of the 24 members who joined the Birding SIG fellowship dinner held at Ipoh Swimming Club. In the past, this venue used to be a favourite place for holding the more formal events of the Branch such as AGMs and social gatherings.
The dinner, held in the privacy of the Dolphin Room, was a real feast, thanks to the excellent choice of menu by Chiu and Audrey. The spread of buffet style food included Chicken Kapitan, Grilled Fish, Buttered Prawns, Cold Chicken Salad, Roast Lamb and Fried Brocolli.
In keeping with the common interest of those present, we had a lucky draw with a “birdy” slant. Instead of picking random lucky numbers, Branch Chair Leow was on hand to pick slips of paper with names of rare birds……and he promptly drew out “Spoon-billed Sandpiper” which just happened to be his ticket and won himself a t-shirt! Other rarities picked included Puff-backed Bulbul which won Chiu Sein Chiong the second prize of a limited edition Leica cap and Oriental Darter which was the lucky bird for David Chin who took home the first prize – one of the last copies of the book “Birds of Perak and where to see them”.
