MNS Perak Bird Group participated in this year’s World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) celebrations with a birdwatching trip and a school exhibition. On Sunday 12th May, a group of 13 members and friends went to the Pantei Remis shoreline to look for migratory shorebirds. We saw about 100 waders feeding on the mudflats, comprising of 4 species with the majority being Lesser Sand Plovers, including a few in breeding plumage, Greater Sand Plovers, two Whimbrels and a lone Common Redshank. To mark the occasion, we took a group photo with our WMBD banner which declared Malaysia as “the migratory bird superhighway of Asia”. At SMJK Yuk Choy, Ipoh, WMBD posters and information were put up from 6 – 17 May 2013 for the benefit of the students. Our WMBD report, with photos, will be sent to the organisers for their information.
